Going, Going, Gone....SOLD!

I'm pretty excited after the awesome show this weekend, The Alliday Show at the Ford Exhibit Hall at the Expo Square.  Our daughter was the producer of the show and it was a rousing success!  There were tons of people and vendors selling stuff left and right, including me!  I sold prints, note cards and yes I sold a painting.  This one to be exact!  I would have liked to sell more as anyone would, but that is fine and I look forward to next year and more selling!  So many friends and family came to support our girl and it made my heart sing to watch her come into her own.  She was a pro at planning this thing and the response was overwhelming for everyone!

Pot Holders

Pot Holders...this past weekend I decided that I wanted to make pot holders.  My Great Aunt Ree was the master at making these fine kitchen aids and she sat me down many, many, MANY years ago to show me how to make them.  I am not good at it but they work.  She used a treadle sewing machine, much like this one to whip out tons of these jewels.  Everyone who visited their house in Jay, Oklahoma never walked away without at least two in their mitts.

I made 9 this weekend after battling my more modern sewing machine and hope that by the end of the week, my very busy week to have at least 30!
You first start out with fabric, lots of cotton fabric.  I wouldn't want to grab a polyester pot holder to take a hot pan out of the oven!  I have stores of fabric, cotton fabric and need to use it up.  Fortunately, I had begun the process of making these fine masterpieces over a year ago so many were already cut out and ready.  The insides are just more fabric, layered to make them basically quilted.

Now, after seeing how they are made come Saturday to The Alliday show to see them up close and personal.  My art will be there too:  note cards, prints and oh yes, originals all ready to PURCHASE!

Update - Alpha Rho Tau

Imagine my surprise when I arrived for the artist's reception to find ribbons on my three entries.  My first ribbons on my art.  First place went to the photo I took when we were in Caen, France, from our room.  One of my fav pictures and hangs in our house when not on display here.  It took 1st Place!
I'm really excited about the photography award.  I love to take pictures and I paint from my own photos.

I took 2nd place on this one, an oil on canvas.  (This picture and the clematis below look funny here because they are behind glass.)

This one took Honorable Mention!

I was pretty excited I can say.  This has been the third time I've entered in the TCC Alpha Rho Tau show.  The show is ongoing until Dec 1 so go by and take a look at all the wonderful art.

TCC Art Show

It is time again for the annual TCC Art Show at the Southeast Campus.  It will run from November 7 -  December 2, 2011.  There is also an artist reception Wednesday, Nov. 9, I think at 6 or 6:30.  I've got two paintings and a photography entry in this year.  In fact I just finished this one:

Facebook Page

I received my newsletter/magazine from Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition or OVAC, called Art Focus Oklahoma last week and one of the pages was about promoting your art with a Facebook page.  I was excited about it that I got it up and going right after I read it.  I was at the cabin sitting on a neighbors deck and went right to work.  I've struggled a bit trying to send out the invites to friends to like the page, Facebook not cooperating with my attempts, but figured out to just post an invite on my regular page.  It is working a bit but some only like the post, not going to the new page and "LIKE"ing it.  Oh it's all work and I'm not afraid of a bit of work.  I decided to add some of my sketches and photography too as occasionally I can take a decent picture, worthy of framing.  So remember to go to my Facebook ART PAGE and Like it.

Playing in paint again today.  Decided I would try to paint Clayton.  He's such a handsome boy.  This is just blocked in, just beginning!

Baby's Breath, Onion, Garlic & Rose

Finished yet another painting yesterday.  This is a horrible snapshot of it and promise a better one when it is scanned.

Soldiers

My new project.  I've kind of taken on a challenging task here and I hope I can pull it off.  The photo is from The Hubby's cousin somewhere "over there."  It is only blocked in a bit so so don't judge too harshly.  There is really a lot of detail but not too much color so I have to pump it up a bit.  Hope it goes well.

Art Shows

First of all this is a bad picture of the painting but I was in a time crunch and it was still wet, hence the glistening paint.  This is my contribution the the 5x5 show at the Tulsa Art Coalition Gallery downtown.  The opening is May 5 at 5:55 p.m. and runs until May 21.  All the paintings are $55.  So come line up and buy something.   The oldest has a mixed media one in the show too.  I had the idea of eggs since last year and it turned out well.

Savage Art Gallery & The Gallery on Sixth is hosting the Alpha Rho Tau art exhibit again.  The artist reception is May 5, 5-8 pm...uh just realized it is the same night as the 5x5.  Hmmmm, oh well.  I have 4 paintings in the ART show.  The show runs thru May 16.  The gallery hours are Tues-Sat. 10-5.  Come on by the reception or the other times.  EVERYTHING is For Sale!

Now, my latest project.  I'm learning to paint cloth.  What fun.  I think I will like this one.

Red Bridge

This picture I took while we were in Ireland a few years ago.  It is at the Irish Stud Farm...in the Japanese Garden's.  I loved it and knew it would be a good painting.  I signed it today.
This is kind of a in-between picture, before the reflections...

DONE!  (for sale!)

Commission

I was approached last fall to do my first commission work.  I was over the moon with excitment and scared beyond belief that I would not be able to accomplish the task.  I had to try though and thought it could be an easy one.  So onward I went.  I only sketched the canoe and people and filled in the background.  The canoe had to be changed in color as green, green, green was not going to be pretty.  They were sisters that don't get to see each other often and the husband wanted to remember that day they had so much fun.

Being Creative

I finished the Larry painting while stuck inside but then a head cold stopped me from being creative. Could not get my head to want to touch a paintbrush until today.

So, I've blocked in a few more. I'm on a roll...
This is not the actual picture but a copy because I have misplaced the original.  I'm sick about it but luckily I had it drawn and ready to paint.  I'm glad took a picture of the sketch, with the photo attached, or I would have to paint it by memory.  It is just blocked in for now and I will need to work on the background, in class, I need help.

I've had this one drawn for over a year but was afraid to start it.  I decided I'd jump off and attempt.  It is just in it's infancy so is a bit uneven, a work in progress.

NOW...this is a departure for me.  I tried to block it in with a palete knife...

It's only just, barely started and I hope it gets better.  I kind of like it, yet not.  We'll see.  It still needs some layers of paint.
